I still haven't figured out how to do this really... I need some serious help! But I am going to do my best... so be patient with the "technically challenged"!
This last week I turned 38... I'm sorry... I just needed a moment to throw up. Actually my girls told me many times that day while I was on a 3 mile hike to Stewart Falls at Sundance, that I am very active "for my age". Should I be offended? Courtney also enjoyed telling me how old I would be when she was any age between now and her impending death at 100. Kids certainly keep you humble! Maybe that's why God invented them...
For my birthday, Dan really wanted to make it special for me. Last year was the birthday from H@*!. (Sorry about my potty mouth) Dan went and got me a cake... I will post a picture because there is truly no words to describe the thing... and took me out to dinner, but about half way through the meal he became really sick and we came home, he threw up and went to bed, and I watched old reruns of growing pains until I fell asleep. It was a lovely day I will forever hold dear to my heart... ha ha!...But this year was fabulous! We took the girls and stayed in Park City Wednesday night (the 23rd), Thursday, Friday, and came home on Saturday the 26th.
Thursday we went to the Olympic Park, which surprised us all with how cool it was. We watched young athletes practice and jump into a huge swimming pool, we did an alpine slide (a quick shout out to the two teenage boys that had to come down behind me... SORRY!!!... I am getting old as my children pointed out... but I don't think they realized I would be forcing them to go at a "safe and reasonable speed"...), Dan and Kenna did two zip lines (one of which was a 50 story drop) and Dan of course had to test the odds by going down the Olympic Bobsled course! They have a professional driver, and up to 3 passengers, of which Dan was the 3rd and rode in the back... this is the "bumpiest" ride in the sled and they really should wrap this rider in a complete bubble wrap suit, but he LOVED it!!!! In the winter you go up to 15 miles an hour faster... about 6 "G's" which Dan has done when he rode in an F-16... and they say that if you have high blood pressure you will pass out on turn 3... sounds like loads of fun doesn't it?!
After the Olympic Park, we went to lunch and then went to the movies and saw "Journey to the Center of the Earth". We enjoyed it, but I would suggest the 3-D version if you haven't seen it yet. Later we went and walked up and down main street, bought our "Christmas Ornament" from the trip (this is our family tradition), and had dinner. The girls talked us into letting them swim in the hotel pool... until they noticed a kid throw-up and came running out of the water! It was disgusting! The worst part was that the mom tried to hide that it had happened from all the other guests in the pool and the hotel didn't clean the pool until the next morning! Did I mention I hate public pools and especially hot tubs? EWWWWWWW!!!
On Friday, my actual birthday, we headed for Sundance and rode the tram up to the top and started our 3 mile hike. It was really fun, and the girls have both said this was their favorite part of the trip. It was 1 and 1/2 miles to the falls, and then the same on a different trail back to the Lodge. We were about half way to the falls when we had a diamond back rattlesnake chase some kind of chipmunk out onto the trail in front of us... very scary! But that is why we had Dan at the front of our little line of trail warriors! We all jumped back, he slithered back into the bushes, and then he shook his giant rattle a few times to let us know how upset he was that we had caused him to "lose his lunch"... We then were forced to make a decision on whether to try to get past him or turn around. We decided to forge ahead... but we made Dan our "sacraficial guinea pig" and he had to run past first... and then each of us girls took a turn and ran past screaming at the top of our lungs... I am sure he left in a hurry! The falls were amazing and we had such a great adventure getting there and back. We had lunch at Sundance and then headed back to Park City. After a nap (which is not a good thing for anyone in my family except my mom and Dan... the rest of us feel WORSE after a nap) We got ready and went to dinner. Our wonderful friends JD and Lindsey met us at a Mexican restaurant, and came in with a huge bag and balloons. I felt very special... and the girls loved it! They gave me the most cozy blanket in the world, a bracelet that Lindsey made, a Carmel apple that I will eat at some point today when I am all alone (or maybe I will share it with Dan), and a book called "The Last Lecture" by Randy Pausch. (Who unfortunately passed away on the 24th) What a great birthday I had! Not that it would have taken much to beat last year... but it was great!
We left Saturday morning and headed to Salt Lake to go to the Salt Lake Temple as my Aunt Jennifer was going through for the first time. What a way to finish off several days of fun and celebration. I have the greatest family, extended family, and friends in the world. How can one girl be so lucky?... Until next time... and hopefully I will be able to post the pictures that go with all of this... wish me luck!
