Metro Group Ribbon Cutting and Open House

Today was the day we have been waiting for... for a very long time! It was the official "Ribbon Cutting" ceremony, open house, and luncheon.
Dan had Kenna help him get his office unpacked on Tuesday. There is still some decorating to do... but he can get work done!
Dan the man... ready for the event!
These are what the bailer spits out... they are HUGE!!!!!! After metal is bailed it is shipped to a mill to be melted down and turned into something else... like a new can of Diet Dr. Pepper.
All of the major news channels came... so I will be recording them tonight. This is Mark Bond speaking at the event and sharing some of the history of the company and his thoughts on where it is headed now.
The "Ribbon Cutting"... it was a thick piece of copper wire and they cut it with a mini shear...

It was an awesome idea... very clever!
Spencer Eccles was the main speaker... he was just named to head the Governor's Office of Economic Development.
Kimi Barnett from Mayor Peter Corroon's office...
The Metro Executive Board... Jim Bond (VP) , Mark Bond (President & CEO), Bill Worsley (Accountant), Dan Floyd (VP of Operations), J.D. Mair (VP of Sales), and Chris Bond (VP of Purchasing). What a great group of men Dan has the privilege of working with every day.
And this is who they REALLY are.... they know how to work hard, but they play just as hard!
I am so glad this day is finally here... and I am so proud of what Dan has accomplished! Now ready to open for business on Monday! Save your cans and recycle people!!!!! (You can even bring them to our house if you want to.)

Courtney the Mermaid Girl....

Courtney loves to swim. Courtney has ALWAYS loved to swim. Courtney has begged me to find out how she could get on a swim team so she can swim everyday. I didn't know if I wanted to have that kind of a time commitment... but after some serious thought and consideration, I decided that it was selfish of me to not make this happen for her if it's what she loves to do...
I told her that she would HAVE to swim everyday except Sunday. Her answer? What do you mean have to? You mean, GET TO! That was the moment that I knew what I needed to do.
After looking online at our local rec center, I found out that they were holding a "Summer Club" tryout yesterday (Tuesday, May 29th) and today (Wednesday, May 30th). She could already do the freestyle and backstroke really well, but had no idea how to do the breast stroke and butterfly. So, after what I know was a prompting, I called my sister-in-law Karen on Saturday morning around 11:00 and by 1:30 we were at the pool by her house. She was a competitive swimmer from the time she was about 10 through high school. I asked her if she would be willing to teach Courtney the strokes and make sure she was doing the other well enough to try out. They were in the pool for about an hour to an hour and a half... and she was amazing!!!! She was so excited!

Monday morning Kenna took her down to the pool and let her practice for about an hour while Dan and I ran some errands for our BBQ. Yesterday we decided to head to the pool around 3 pm to practice before the tryouts started at 4:00. I stopped at the front desk to fill out some paperwork and they let Courtney go in to the pool to start swimming. When I got in to where she was, I saw a guy watching her. He was walking along the side of the pool. Was he a "creeper"?  I went over quickly and watched her finish swimming to that end of the pool. He walked over and asked me what she was doing. I told him that she was trying out for the summer swim club team. He told me that he had just done an "unofficial tryout" for the USA team. And she was REALLY good and had made it. I was shocked! He took me in and introduced me to the other coach and they gave me all the info. We had to run home to get her birth certificate and then came back and got her all registered. She starts on Monday. EVERY morning. At 7:00 AM. ALL SUMMER. And 4:00 PM the REST OF THE YEAR. Is it worth it? Absolutely! I have never seen her so excited about anything! We have found her passion...at least that's what she told me on the way home. What really surprised me? How excited I am!!!!

Memorial Day 2012

We decided to have a little Memorial Day BBQ with a few of our neighbors... it was nice to sit in the sun and just relax. We have been so busy... so it was nice to just enjoy some good food and laugh with good friends.
 Camilla...
 Tyler...
All the kids down playing on the lawn...
I don't think doing "under-dogs" is a good idea with the hammock....
Courtney trying to look like a bunny... very attractive.
Thanks Rachel, Shane and Jennifer, and Caryn for a fun afternoon!!

Temple Challenge:The Floyd's Great Adventure Continues...

We couldn't go anywhere this weekend... Dan had to be available on Saturday to get all moved in to the  new facility at work... so spontaneously we decided to have a "little adventure" that we could make work with our limited time available. Sunday at about 7:00 PM we decided to head for Logan to get 4 of the last 6 temples in our "Temple Challenge." The only 2 we have left now are Monticello and Vernal. Here we are in front of Temple #9... Bountiful.
And here we are in front of the Ogden temple. We thought they were just "remodeling"... not so much. It really looks like they  are starting over!!!! It looks like it is going to be amazing! We can't wait to come back when this one is finished. Temple #10!
And by the time we got to the Brigham City Temple it was dark. We had a "security guard" take our picture. I don't think he was protecting much... maybe his 7-eleven nachos and his security flashlight... but hey, he did take a break from his nap to take our picture. Temple #11!
And finally, we arrived at the Logan Temple. We had to set up our tripod to get this shot... we briefly considered asking the young couple in the car parked near by playing tonsil-hockey to take it. But they looked busy.... Temple #12
We then headed to the Holiday Inn in Logan for the night. It started out okay... and Courtney fell asleep quickly... but just as we were starting to drift off some sort of pool cleaning system kicked on below our room and was literally shaking our teeth. It was so loud! Dan called the front desk and they offered us another room down the hall. He and I went... the kids stayed in this room. Kenna was thrilled to have her own bed and didn't mind the noise. This morning we went back in and woke them up to head home. (Dan had a 9:30 hair appointment.)
Look at that smile... that is the smile of a man who got about 6 hours of restful sleep in a hotel bed and an over-cooked piece of sausage for breakfast!
Home for a Memorial Day BBQ with some of the neighbors... bring on the Summer! Floyd Family Temple Challenge Total: 12 Temples and 2 Bonus Temples

Temple Challenge

We had some extra time yesterday afternoon so we decided to hit two more temples...
Temple #7 Draper...

Temple #8... Jordan River
The Taylor family is giving us serious challenge! We love competitive people and good competition! And it has been so much fun learning about each temple...

Momma's New Car!

We picked up my new car on Saturday morning before we headed to the Metro Family Day. I am beyond excited! It's a new Acura MDX advanced. I love it!
It's a cross-over with seating for seven... so the kids can finally have friends come along! McKenna can drive alone with friends in about a week so it was finally time to hand over my car full time to her... and she is thrilled! This is a win-win for both of us!
A view of the inside. I should get some better pictures... but this will have to do.
When we got home from the lunch we spent a couple of hours in the driveway figuring out as much as we could. (It has about 1000 voice commands... this may take some time!)
While we were in the front, we put on a movie for Courtney in the back seat. She loves the wireless headphones... this will make traveling way more fun! Wish we would have had this for the road trip to Chicago a few years ago!!!! I wish we were taking it on our trip to Nauvoo this summer but Dan doesn't want to "road-trip" so we are flying....
Love my new car!!!!! Thanks Dan! I love you HUGE!!!

Metro 3150 Friends and Family Day

Saturday, May 19, 2012 was Metro Friends and Family Day...
This gives you an idea of how big this part of the warehouse is... that is a semi pulling doubles...
Preparing for the employee's and their families to arrive...
Some of the new trucks parked inside so the kids could climb in and check them out....
A few of our favorites enjoying their lunch... Lindsey and Shelby and their cute babies....
 Liz and Preston helping serve...
Jake eating... I mean serving... brownies....
Dan and Kenna serving the chicken breasts and fruit...
 Metro Group Inc....
Courtney wanted a ride on the lift before we left...
A view of the bailer... it is going to be amazing when everything is up and running!
I forgot to post this picture weeks ago.... while they were finishing the offices they realized that this raccoon (Courtney named him Kevin....) had gotten in. It took days and lots of food to catch him... but they finally did it! Dan took him up East Canyon and released him....
It was a great day and wonderful event. It was really fun to show the employee's the new building and have them get to show it off to their families. Next weekend we move in... and the 31st is the ribbon cutting. We are almost there!

Rescue Me....

Yesterday afternoon I was waiting for a phone call from Dan to determine our activities for FHE. We are buying me a new car as Kenna can finally drive with friends alone in the car in the next few weeks. We have decided on an Acura MDX. It is really beautiful...but I won't give any more details until I pick it up and can post some pictures. When the car arrived at the dealership it had a tiny scratch so the dealer was having it buffed out and detailed... and unfortunately it wasn't ready for us to pick up. However, we still got to go to Salt Lake because my sweetheart needed to be rescued! Dan locked his key in his truck, so we headed to "new Metro" to rescue him. We decided that we might as well complete some more of our "Temple Challenge" and hit the Salt Lake Temple. We got a cute sister missionary to help us out... she was from Chicago! Floyd's: 6 Temples plus 2 Bonus "Under Construction Temples"...
We then decided to walk to the Olive Garden so we could burn off some of the calories before and after the meal. It was quite the walk... however it did make us feel far less guilty....

And by the way... if you misplaced your black fruit of the loom underpants.... you can stop looking. We found them. They are on West Temple outside the Nordstroms. You're welcome.
Fun night with my favorite people. I am loving this weather!!!!!

St. George Trip: May 2012

Last fall while we were at Tuacahn for "The Little Mermaid" they announced tickets were on sale for the "Brian Reagan" Concert for this weekend. He is the funniest and cleanest comedian ever... one you can take the kids to and not worry for a second about what might be said....so Dan ran out and bought tickets during intermission. We decided to take my parents for their Christmas present... and we had a blast!
We stopped in Santaquin to meet them at the Dairy Queen by their house... nice "SEE-food" Dan....
Several hours later after checking into our hotel we headed to the Texas Roadhouse for dinner... Courtney pretty much climbed into the barrel of peanuts...
Grandma and Grandpa enjoying their dinner...
We decided to try the "fried pickles"... I like pickles but these were way to salty for my taste...
Then we headed over to Tuacahn... love this place!!! It is so beautiful and the weather was perfect!
Sunday morning... Mothers Day... we headed to a local ward for Sacrament meeting... it was funny because the bishopric was greeting people as you came in. They got REALLY excited to see us and our KIDS. The second couselor said... "We've been fasting and praying for more youth!".... and Dan told him "Well, it worked for today!" So sad...
After changing we started our trek back home... but of course had to run to the St. George temple first. This "Temple Challenge" is going to be fun!
Our beautiful girls enjoying the beautiful weather!
Kenna and Courtney saw this dinosaur in the parking lot of a gas station and wanted to stop for a photo shoot... of course Dan obliged... When we got to the hotel my parents asked "How did we beat you here?!"
The hotel we stayed at this trip.... can't believe that I forgot to take my camera to the pool yesterday for some shots of everyone... Courtney had a blast in the pool and the rest of us just soaked up the sun...
We came home through Manti... I promise we are in this picture!!! Just left of center by the tree. This is the temple we were sealed in. My great-great-great-grandfather (probably a few more greats...) C.C.A. Christensen painted many of the murals in this temple. It holds great meaning for us...
When we got to Payson my parents showed us where the new Payson temple is being built. This is our "Bonus #1" temple...
We then stopped at what will be the new Provo Tabernacle temple. It too is under construction... "Bonus #2" temple.... luckily we found a really nice guy to take our picture here...
We then headed to the Provo temple... found a nice girl from Texas to take this shot...
And finally, we ended the trip by stopping at the Mount Timp temple... we found a nice lady with kids out on a walk to snap this one. This is turning into a great way to make new friends!!!
This was a really fun trip and we sure enjoyed our time with Grandma and Grandpa King. I think if they didn't already think we were "cuckoo-pants"... they do now!!! The new "Temple Challenge" total.....
FLOYDS: 5 Temples plus 2 "Under Construction Bonus Temples"     EVERYONE ELSE: ?
