McKenna Sweet 16: Day 1 (December 2nd)
This morning started out by me taking the girls to breakfast for Kenna's birthday... it isn't until Sunday, but we won't be able to do it tomorrow, and obviously won't do it on Sunday....
We got up extra early and headed to Denny's. Kenna wanted the "Arthur Christmas" shake ... she didn't eat much... I wasn't surprised... it was only 6:30 in the morning!
Later when she got home from school I had her open gift#1... We decided a long time ago that when our girls turn 16 their first date would be with Dan. We really want them to feel special and have a night with their dad they won't ever forget. We also made sure that Kenna realizes that her "normal" dates with "financial challenged" 16 year old boys won't be anything like this, but they way they treat her should always feel like she will feel tonight.
A new outfit and winter dress coat...
Here she is waiting for her "prince charming" to arrive...
When he knocked on the door at 6:29 she couldn't have been more excited!
Until she saw the stretch limo in the driveway!!!! (I know it is hard to see, but the lighting was terrrible!)
Here they are ready to leave for their night on the town!
Dan took this shot on their way... he promised to take lots of pictures and he came through!!!
A shot of the two of them...
At dinner Dan gave her a special ring that we had made for her that she will wear on her right ring finger... hopefully FOREVER! It has eight different colored stones representing the eight Young Women values. We hope it will be a reminder to her everyday of who she is and what she stands for...
She was thrilled! It wasn't until this moment that Dan realized what this must look like to the other guests at "The Roof"... A dozen red roses on the table, a ring.... an extremely young "trophy girlfriend"? Hilarious!!!! He got a few strange/ judgemental looks....
What a view...
A shot by the Christmas tree in the lobby...
Beautiful!!!
Meanwhile... here is my date for the evening... looking at me like "really"? We had so much fun... UNTIL we got to the mall and realized that I had left my debit card on the tray at Zupas... and they had just emptied the trash when I called. We went back and got some rubber gloves, and a kind employee, and Courtney holding my cell phone up for light as we dug through the garbage. We found it!!!! What a memory!
We got home just before they pulled up... here is another shot of the limo... and a dusting of snow... Perfect!
The happy "couple" has arrived... and she said "Yes" I will continue to be an amazing Young Woman and great example to all around me... and I will let my dad choose all my boyfriends and future husband. And I won't get married until I am 29. This night was totally worth it!

Amazing! She looks so beautiful. It almost made me cry seeing the pictures and thinking of all the kids growing up since we have moved away.
The pictures of her in the limo are stunning! I was just thinking how grown up she looked and then I saw the picture of her when she first got the ring and has that look of surprise on her face... that looks just like she did as a little girl!
I laughed when I read about what others might be thinking . I didn't think of that until you said it either. How funny. There probably were people thinking that!
What a great night!
The ring is beautiful and I am so glad you found your card!
Isn't there a song called..."Oh, what a night..."? That definately was the theme for McKenna's first date and night out with her Dad! Beautiful girl...beautiful roses...beautiful ring...beautiful limo!! And now for the other end of the evening...you and Courtney had quite the adventure yourselves! Lavish in the "go through the garbage" kind of night! Yes, I would say you all will remember your adventures!
OH MY GOSH!!! I just spent forever looking at these pictures. It made me smile and made me choke up with tears all at the same time. She is SO BEAUTIFUL inside and out, and she is SO LUCKY to have parents like you and Dan. Wow. What a blessed and amazing family you guys have. We love you so much and I am so grateful to have you as examples in our lives. Now we will know what to do with Jada when the time comes! ("Tear, tear", as you would say!) LOVE LOVE LOVE YOU!!
