Monday morning we spent some time as a family checking out some of the shops before taking McKenna over to check her in to EFY. It was hard to leave her.... and yet it was nice knowing that we would be close by if she needed us. It was funny though... she didn't even text us until Thursday! We knew that was a good sign and that she must be having tons of fun!
When we got to her hotel and checked in, they sent us across the street to rooms they had set up more like dorms. Her door had tags with each of the girls names on them and a note from their counselor introducing herself and telling them where to meet her a little later that afternoon...The room had 4 bunk beds in it... and ONE bathroom. They ended up having 7 girls in their room and only one bathroom!!!! McKenna is truly my daughter because she would get up at 5 every morning so she could shower and get ready for the day before everyone else got up and started fighting for the bathroom. Smart girl!!!!!
After putting her stuff in her room we walked with the girls over to "registration" to pick up their t-shirts and EFY books and backpacks...
After dropping her off Dan, Courtney, and I headed to the Visitors Center. We met some cute missionaries... one will be a forever friend... Sister Schoepf! She is from Riverton and we are already planning on attending her homecoming in August! We then watched the movie "Joseph Smith: Prophet of the Restoration." It was really good and really helped us all feel the spirit before we began visiting the sights in Nauvoo.
First we visited the "Browning" home. Dan LOVED this one. In this case below (on the top left) are a gun and saber owned by William Clayton. He is the one who wrote "Come, Come, ye Saints." The Cutlers on our street are related to him, so Courtney had to get pictures to bring home to Camilla.
I thought this must have been the view so many saints living in Nauvoo must have seen while living here after the temple was finished. How difficult it must have been to see this sight for the last time as they headed to Parley Street and then for the unknown fate held for them in the Rocky Mountains...
We decided to try the Buffet at the "Hotel Nauvoo" tonight... at least I think that's what it was called?.....
Dan and Torte ready for some food!
Afterwards we headed for the show "Sunset on the Mississippi" put on by the Youth Performing Missionaries and the adult couple missionaries. I had never heard of the Youth Performing Missionaries before. They have to audition and if chosen come to Nauvoo for 4 months. They were really amazing!
Before the show started they had the kids make hats. Little did Courtney know that after they made their hats they would then have to march in the "Parade"...
She was MORTIFIED!!!! It was hilarious watching her! She tried to be a good sport... but we could tell she wanted to climb under a rock! She is at that point now... she will be 12 in November.
The cute Elders with fake noses on that made them look like mosquito's....
Also performing tonight were the Living Legends from BYU. They were awesome!!!
They represented many ethnic backgrounds including the Native Americans...
Afterwards we headed back to our room and collapsed into bed! What a long and busy day.... but sooooo fun! Can't wait to see what tomorrow brings....
